BUSINESS BIO: Richard assists his clients by finding remedies for their particular financial problems. Richard helps his clients assess their situation, understand their opportunities, and develop the most effective strategy for their particular circumstance. In the implementation of these strategies Richard applies his extensive experience in managing crises, restructuring debt, protecting and recovering assets, Chapter 7, 11 and 13 Bankruptcies, out-of-court reorganizations, Assignments For the Benefit of Creditors, ordered liquidations, and negotiating and drafting agreements for strategic partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, and exit plans. On the other hand Richard, as creditor's counsel, has successfully pursued debtors through the bankruptcy process. He has obtained relief from the automatic stay, recovered hidden or improperly exempted assets as well as obtained non-dischargeable judgments. When necessary, he has commandeered Chapter 11 Bankruptcies to make the process work for the benefit of his creditors. Richard is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Bankruptcy Specialist. His many years of practice provide him with a breadth of experience and he has represented a wide range of debtors, from individuals to multi-million dollar businesses. Richard was in-house counsel for 11 years at the Carpenter's Trusts of Southern California, where he headed the Legal Department for 7 years. Subsequently he joined Wasserman, Comden, Casselman & Pearson where he was a partner for 6 of his 10 years. For many years Richard practiced with his son David Brownstein at Brownstein & Brownstein LLP.
